Health safety measures during travel journey
To ensure the health and safety of your customer at the airport and on board, Air France and KLM are in continuous contact with various local and governmental authorities and pro-actively adjust their products and services to the latest insights. Extra precautionary hygiene, safety and social distancing measures are taken, creating a safe travel environment during check-in, at the gate, while boarding and on board.
Face masks required during boarding and on board
One of the measures is wearing a face mask during boarding and on board. When traveling with Air France, passengers and staff are required to wear a three layered filter mask, also known as surgical mask or Category 1 mask, during the entire journey. A tip for your customers: when they are traveling for a longer period of time they have to bring several face masks.
Adjusted service on board
Customers flying with KLM will find a dinner bag on their seat upon boarding. On flights longer than nine hours, KLM serves a hot meal as well. Travelers in World Business Class will receive a dinner tray with a salad, dessert, cheese and crackers, plus a hot meal. Due to the circumstances, it is currently not possible to select meals, nor to order a special meal.
When traveling with KLM and passengers would like to make use of a pillow during the flight, a pillow can be requested via one of the crewmembers, because pillows are since the outbreak of COVID-19 removed from the seats.
On board air quality
All aircraft are equipped with the High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters, identical to those used in medical operating rooms, to completely refresh the air every three minutes. By using the certified filters and constantly refreshing the air in the cabin, Air France and KLM are minimizing the risk of spread of pathogens while also offering passengers a pleasant and fresh atmosphere.

We continue to optimize our operations based on the entry restrictions placed by several countries and on operational feasibility.

Thereafter Air France will suspend its operations indefinitely.

Health and safety are our top priorityReceived on – 14th March 2020
Air France and KLM always put the health and safety of customers and staff first. To take adequate measures to ensure their health and safety, we closely monitor the developments of Covid-19, the Coronavirus, and are in continuous contact with various national and international health and aviation authorities.
Ensuring high hygienic standards
Hygiene, both onboard and at the airport, is of great importance for us. Bringing passengers safely and healthy to their destination is our top priority and to be able to guarantee this we always follow strict hygiene rules. Covid-19, the Coronavirus, does not survive well outside the body and is destroyed with detergent. We thoroughly clean and disinfect each aircraft before departure. This includes vacuuming all seats and carpets, cleaning and disinfecting everything passengers may come into contact with, and providing clean blankets which we distribute in a protective plastic film. For catering, we always adhere to the strictest hygiene rules.
During the flight
To ensure excellent air quality onboard, the air is continuously refreshed with outside air. The air recycling systems have certified filters that continuously purify the air and trap pathogens, including Covid-19.
Additionally, the Air France and KLM crew are briefed to remain alert throughout each flight. If a passenger falls ill, a strict protocol for infectious diseases comes into effect. Special Corona kits, available on each flight, help prevent the spread of the virus. The crew will take care of the passenger and assist those who sat nearby.
Our partners Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic have similar strict protocols in place where the health and safety of your customers is of most importance.
